McPherson Tartan

The McPherson tartan is proudly worn by the members of the Mildura Pipe Band.
The website colours are a vague attempt to emulate the tartan colours.

Did you know

That in World War One, the highland bagpipe was the only musical instrument that was officially classified as a ‘Weapon of War’? The British authorities recognised the capacity of the pipes to inspire courage in their soldiers, whilst striking terror in the enemy, and pipers were actually paid at a higher daily rate than ordinary soldiers.

The Mildura District Pipeband

Is available for a wide range of activities in the community:
With its strong historical links to the Australian Army it traditionally participates in Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and other military commemoration services throughout the district.

The band has also been involved in numerous community functions such as Australia Day celebrations, various fetes, festivals, and street parades.
It has also provided music and comperes for Highland Balls and Burns Suppers, and our members play on request at weddings, funerals, private parties, and at many service- and social-club functions.

The band practices every Wednesday night from 7:00pm – 9:00pm in the Old Aerodrome Ovals Pavilion off 11th street.
Our members come from many backgrounds and walks of life. Most have a Celt or two in the gene pool but it isnt a requirement, but a love of highland music, IS.
the Pipe band is a vibrant and highly regarded part of the Sunraysia community on both sides of the river, even extending its activities as far as Ouyen, Robinvale and the Riverland of South Australia.
